The Kantin Gas Methan micro business and waste management campaign aims at showing how Kantin Gas Methan and waste management at Jatibarang can be an example of the implementation of SDGs 7, 9, 11 and 13. Our team comes from civitas academica of Soegijapranata Catholic University, Semarang. All are members of Soegijapranata Echo Life (SEL), one of the Student Activity Units on the campus on the environment.

The description of each goal is:

  1. Methane gas management at Jatibarang landfill is an endeavour to reduce global warming (SDG 13).

  2. Kantin Gas Methan uses methane gas which is provided by the landfill manager for lightning the stove fire for cooking activity. The government uses methane gas as a source of energy and electricity. It will be distributed to the surrounding people for free (SDG 7).

  3. Kantin Gas Methan and waste management are an innovation to encourage economic growth. The government has encouraged micro business around the landfill. Its concept means to create occupation field (SDG 9).

  4. The landfill is an inseparable part of city life. Endeavours made by the government of Semarang City through the concept of waste to energy can optimise and increase the long life of the landfill itself (SDG 11).
